BBC Three have today announced plans to broadcast three entertainment programmes featuring musical performances, domestic mayhem and magic.

The first is a reality show called South Side Story, where a group of South London dancers, singers and performers go about their everyday lives while showcasing their talents.

Combining structured reality with pop music performances, the Brixton based series will follow friends and associates who hope to impress in a vibrant and urban South London.

Zai Bennett, Controller of BBC Three, says: “South Side Story promises to bring BBC Three a heady mix of real people's lives and visually stunning performances. It's an experimental new style of story-telling in the reality TV world and is exactly the kind of show we should be experimenting with on BBC Three.”

Hotel of Mum and Dad will be returning for a second series after the success of the first, and will build upon the original format.

Twelve couples who had to 'bunk up' with their parents or in-laws take on the challenge of testing out getting a place on their own.

The show promises to place more focus on family dynamics this time round, rigging cameras in parental homes so viewers can witness exactly what goes on before young lovebirds get to fly the nest.

The final commission is Killer Magic - a working title - in which five young and aspiring magicians will compete against one another in the hopes of having to avoid performing a killer trick - a 'notorious illusion or magic trick that has jeopardised the lives of those who have tried to perform it throughout history.'

Each week will be themed and so contestants must create new and exciting tricks that go with their individual styles as well as the theme set out for them.

Outright sabotage will be allowed in a competition with very little rules, and in their bids to impress their fellow tricksters they'll hope to win as many points as possible to avoid becoming the lowest scorer.

Bennett says of the three commissions: “Entertainment on BBC Three is all about the new stars of tomorrow and bringing our audience closer to themselves in extraordinary worlds and circumstances. I'm delighted these three shows will be doing just that on the channel this year.”
