The soap legend - who first played Liz McDonald three decades ago - is still enjoying her time as the Rovers Return mainstay, and while she recently announced her role in new theatre show 'The Thunder Girls', she has dismissed speculation it means she is leaving the cobbles and said that her character has a lot of "fun" plots coming her way.

She told The Daily Star: "Coronation Street turns 60 next year and I really want to be there for that. I'm not going anywhere. I love it.

"There's all sorts happening. I had to go and see my producer for a big meeting recently. It was supposed to be for about half an hour but I was in there for an hour and 20 minutes.

"The stories that are coming up for Liz are fantastic. There's lots of drama , lots of comedy. So it should be good fun."

Although Beverley - who is also appearing on stage in 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' - normally has to snub other work offers because of 'Corrie' commitments, she has figured out an arrangement with soap bosses.

This year marks 30 years since 61-year-old Beverley's first appearance on the cobbles, and she has admitted it's "very scary" to look back and really think about how long it's been.

She recently joked: "It's very scary isn't it? And the worst thing is I hate watching myself!

"30 good years though - and of course 'Coronation Street' is actually 60 next year, which is even better."

Although she has enjoyed a varied career - including credits for the likes of 'Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps' and 'Loose Women' - Beverley revealed she doesn't mind that more fans seem to know her as Liz than any other role.

She admitted: "I love it because as you can imagine, we get recognised wherever we go. Liz is loved so I appreciated that greatly!"
