The Happy Mondays star - who will be the first contestant on the show to wear a protective helmet - admitted his skills on the ice are very limited and he won't be pushing himself too hard because he doesn't want to get injured ahead of his wedding to Firouzeh Razavi, while she is worry about him taking a tumble on his head.

He said: “When I first started [skating], I had double vision, I was seeing two ice rinks. The worst thing was trying to put food in my mouth, I kept missing it!”

“On Friday, in rehearsals, I kept falling over. I was so nervous. Don’t worry, though – I’m not going to kill myself. I’m getting married so I can’t take any risks.”

Firouzeh, 35, added to the Daily Star Sunday newspaper: “When he told me he fell, I was like, ‘Oh no, that is not good at all’. I always say, ‘Whatever you do, protect your head. You can’t fall on your head because you could die’.

“I don’t want to attract negative energy… we’re a lucky couple.”

The 'Step On' hitmaker also laughed off any chance of romance with his skating partner, Angela Egan, because he "couldn't be bothered" with any personal drama.

He said: “At 57, I’ve lost the libido where you want to sh** everyone in the room. It’s a good thing… Firou’s got me at my best.

“I couldn’t be bothered with all the drama, I’m definitely getting older.

“All men are lotharios until a certain age, but I think everybody is quite well behaved on this show.”

And Bez insisted he simply has a "genuine friendship" with his "great" partner.

He added: “She’s a northern lass. They put us together because they thought we would understand each other because of our accents.

“I can see why people find love on the show – the girls are very attractive. But it’s not the case with me and Angela.

“We have a genuine friendship without any sexual tension.”
