The 'Strictly Come Dancing' winner has had advanced talks with the BBC about a new travel programme, which would see him highlight different cultures around the world by enlisting local talent to help him "put on a show".

He told the Daily Star Sunday newspaper: "I’ve been offered the chance to do a show that would go to every continent.

"It would be about music and dance. And at each destination I would put on a show using local performers and musicians to highlight the cultural aspects there.

"We are thinking of calling it 'Earth Odyssey'."

Filming is due to begin in 2022 and if coronavirus restrictions are still in place, meaning the 56-year-old comedian can't travel for the show, he's got a back-up plan in mind.

He said: "We are hoping things will open up. But if they don’t, we will bring it down to a smaller show.

"So we’d be touring around Britain instead. There are lots of places here that I’d love to go to for it.

"I’ve been travelling around Britain for years for gigs. I’ve managed to go all around the country. So I’d love to bring some of that on to a show."

Meanwhile, the 'Black Books' star recently admitted he had been "changed profoundly" by his experiences on 'Strictly'.

He said: “Outwardly, my life goes on. It’s the same. I am still doing comedy.

“But there is something, I think, profoundly that has shifted a little bit as a result of it.

“That’s partly because it’s sort of going out of your comfort zone and doing well.

“But also the experience of it. It toughens you up a bit. I felt incredibly exposed because I was not in my comfort zone at all. You’re dancing live in front of millions and millions of people and every week they would be like, ‘Oh, we are going to get 12million this week’. And you think, ‘Oh crikey.’ ”
