Though it won’t be a part of the hugely successful Arrowverse, new superhero series Black Lightning will hit The CW later this year, with executive producer Salim Akil on board. Now, Akil has teased what will be on offer when the show makes its debut, revealing the ‘Big Bad’ that will serve as villain throughout the first season.

Speaking to the IBTimes, he explained: “It’s a character-driven show. I don’t know if there’s going to be a fight every week. There’s certainly not going to be a villain of the week. I don’t want to do that. We really want to explore the characters, even the villains. I think one of the most interesting characters right now from a storytelling standpoint is Tobias. Because we’re not having him sort of twist his moustache. His hatred for himself and for others comes from a real place, so we want to know why he’s like that.”

Tobias will already be known to fans of DC Comics, as the leader of the 100 gang. Violent in his ruling, his mob have already been teased in the first official full-length trailer for Black Lightning. As a classic foe for Black Lightning to go up against, he would serve as the perfect villainous opening for the series.

No information has been given as to who may be playing Tobias, but in the pages of the comics at least he is a huge, lumbering and formidable man. Hopefully that’s something that will be echoed in his small screen portrayal.

Black Lightning is expected to debut on The CW in the US later this year.
