As we creep ever closer to a Black Lightning premiere on The CW, more and more information starts to come out as to what we should expect. Now, one of the series’ showrunners has opened up about which specific character he’d like to see on the small screen as part of the show moving forward.

Could we see Static Shock in the new CW show?

Could we see Static Shock in the new CW show?

Speaking at the ATX Television Festival, showrunner Salim Akil said: “I love the idea of Static Shock, and in success, hopefully, we’ll be able to pull other characters in that way. So I’m holding out hope because I love that character.”

Those who are already fans likely know the character because of the comic books, or the animated series of the same name.

For those unfamiliar however, Static Shock is a young hero who serves as a Teen Titan, with powers similar to that of Black Lightning. The boy behind the mask is Virgil Hawkins; a hugely popular character.

Though it seems Static Shock coming to Black Lightning could be a sure thing, there’s always the chance the rights to the character are still up in the air. There was talk of a Jayden Smith-led web-series with the character fronting it, so it still may be some time before Static Shock makes it to the screen.

Black Lightning is looking at a premiere on The CW in the US later this year. We’ll bring you more info as we get it.
