Now though he's working on a real-life-based series focusing on cult leader Jim Jones, who founded the Peoples Temple cult and had a hand in murdering Democrat congressman Leo Ryan in 1978.

Following that, 918 members of the cult were killed in a mass suicide in Jonestown, Guyana, with just under 300 of those being children, killed with cyanide poisoning. Jones was among the members who committed suicide.

The series - titled Raven - has already been bought by HBO and will have three other executive producers alongside Gilligan.

No casting has yet been announced, with the series said to be in very early stages.
