The 66-year-old actor - who is the creator and star of the hit BBC sitcom - will be back as Agnes Brown for the show's festive special on Christmas Day (25.12.21), and he admitted he would break his own celebrity guest rule for Bono and his bandmates.

He told the Daily Star newspaper's Hot TV column: "Normally we would never have famous people as guest stars on 'Mrs. Brown's Boys'. It's not something we do.

"But the one thing I would love to do is have Bono and U2 on. I would get them to play Foley's at the end of the episode."

Brendan admitted he has the dream plot all figured out.

He said: "I'd have Agnes go up to them on the stage just as they start playing one of their hits and go, 'I don't want to hear any of that s***'.

"And then she gets them to play crooner songs. That's my one wish so let's see if that ever works out."

Meanwhile, the star explained his ban on famous cameos in the show, as he insisted there's no point having someone on just for the sake of it.

He added: "It must have been about 30 years ago I was working on this show and I was in a production meeting and someone said they had booked this very famous rock star.

"They were all very excited. However, he wasn't going to sing on the programme. He was just gonna be there. So I asked, 'What's he going to do? Why have him on if he isn't going to sing?'

"And I find a lot of shows these days get celebs on without having any point in them being there. So I make sure we don't do that!"
