The 60-year-old TV star - who split from pilot Graham Duff in 2016 - has revealed she's very happy living the life of a "badly behaved singleton".

Carol said: "The thought of sharing my life with someone again makes me feel positively sick."

Carol starred on 'Countdown' between 1982 and 2008, but she's now happy to take a step back from the TV industry and focus on passion projects instead.

She explained that she's now enjoying a "ridiculously happy and absurd life".

Carol said: "I’ve had nearly four decades of working six or seven days a week and now I just want to do the bits I want to do. I have a ridiculously happy and absurd life.

"I sit on an education board in America about space with a lot of astronauts, I do a lot of things that make your heart soar. That’s the joy of it all."

Carol also bemoaned the lack of opportunities for women in the TV industry.

She told the Sunday Telegraph newspaper: "As a girl, if you are interested in science, maths and engineering, there’s no opportunity to observe role models on TV.

"Women are allowed to do cookery programmes but they’re not allowed to present science programmes generally - unless they’re biology-related - or engineering or shows like 'Top Gear'.

"When I hosted 'Loose Women' for a few years, I used to ask [the producers]: ‘Why can’t we have interesting women who run [companies] as our guests?’ And they would go: ‘Oh no’."

Meanwhile, Carol took to Twitter to poke fun at herself after her interview was published in the newspaper.

She wrote on the micro-blogging platform: "Oh.. I make myself laugh sometimes.... headline in today's @Telegraph ...."the thought of living with someone again makes me feel positively sick"... my way of saying I'm VERY happy as a badly behaved singleton [laughing emojis] (sic)"
