An all-new thriller series, that combines family drama with the threats and danger that comes with being a thief, is on its way.
A Town Called Malice is an exciting eight-part drama set to release next year (2023), and will begin filming sometime this month (January, 2022). It has the potential to be a shocking, heavily intriguing series following a family and the many obstacles that stand in their way.
Set amidst the beach clubs and palm trees of Costa del Sol in the early 1980s, A Town Called Malice follows the Lords, a family of petty thieves from South London. They decide to swap the busy streets of London for the sunny lands of Spain in order to profit from an unexpected gain.
However, their choice to flee the UK isn’t just for the wonders of Spain; they are also attempting to flee the attention of the police in a high-profile murder enquiry.
The Lord family consists of acting royalty Jason Flemyng (Save Me, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels) as Albert Lord, Jack Rowan (Born to Kill) as Gene Lord, Tahirah Sharif (The Haunting of Bly Manor) as Cindy Carter, Gean’s girlfriend, and Martha Plimpton (Mass, The Good Wife) as Mint Ma.
Wider family members include Dougray Scott (Ever After, Mission: Impossible 2) as Uncle Tony, Lex Shrapnel (Captain America: The First Avenger) as Leonard Lord, Daniel Sharman (Fear the Walking Dead, Medici) as Kelly Lord, George Jaques (The Third Day: Autumn) as Anthony Lord, and Eliza Butterworth (The Last Kingdom) as Carly Lord.
The most intelligent, yet often overlooked (and youngest) son, Gene, and his lionhearted fiancée Cindy, flee to Spain to avoid being arrested after escaping a gangland battle by the skin of their teeth.
However, it isn’t all beaches and cocktails as the pair of young lovers quickly find themselves involved in the local underworld, and trouble clings to them like a moth to a flame.
When other members of the Lords family join Gene and Cindy on Costa del Sol, they realise that they now have a stellar opportunity to reinvent themselves, and have a stab at reclaiming their former glory.
This plan comes to the dismay of the young couple, who have a very different plan in mind...
Nick Love, creator and writer, said that the show has: “an amazing cast. I am so lucky to finally be working with some of my favourite actors and childhood heroes. I couldn’t be more excited to see how they bring the Lord family to life.”
A Town Called Malice is expected to premiere sometime in 2023 on Sky Max and NOW.
