The 'Corrie' actress was overjoyed to see her former co-star - who played Aidan Connor in the ITV soap - turn up on set on Monday to wish her well as she filmed her final day as Eva Price on the show.

She posted a selfie with Shayne and added the caption: "Best surprise ever! This spoon turns up to surprise me! Missed you spud! #legend #Aideva #lastdayoncobbles #corrie @shaynetward (sic)"

Catherine was inundated with numerous gifts and cards for her final day, including some personalised Eva cupcakes.

Some of the calorific treats featured pictures of the barmaid, images of pints of beer in a nod to her work at the Rovers Return, the iconic Coronation Street sign, and also Eva's catchphrase "oh babes".

The 34-year-old actress received some coconut infusion tea, popcorn, and a book entitled 'Life is a Journey, Not a Destination' from Faye Brookes (Kate Connor).

Shayne departed 'Corrie' in emotional scenes last month which saw Aidan prepare to take his own life, before the character did so off-screen, and afterwards Catherine took to Instagram to praise the actor's "phenomenal" performance.

She wrote: "'Aidan & Eva' ... heartbreaking , phenomenal performance from @shaynetward tonight. Darling it's been an absolute pleasure to work with you. (sic)"

Catherine also admitted she was "very proud" of the episodes which showed the emotional aftermath following Aidan's death.

She wrote: "This weeks episodes of #corrie will be difficult for many to watch. Myself included. We are all in some way affected by #suicide. I firmly believe that this storyline will help so many people, and even save lives. It's #timetotalk . We hope Aidan's story will encourage people to reach out and seek help, if they identify with Aidan's experience. And also encourage others to speak to someone, if they're worried they may be going through a tough time. These episodes are utterly compelling...heart breaking , informative and wonderfully written. I'm very proud to be part of a continuing drama that is brave enough to speak out and tackle such a subject. This weeks storylines are indeed ground breaking, and the actors involved worked so hard to help tell a story that so many people are affected by. The following charities are here to help YOU . There is ALWAYS hope : @calmzone @samaritanscharity @mindcharity (sic)"
