Catherine and Ryan played former lovers Eva Price and Jason Grimshaw on ITV soap 'Coronation Street' and she is delighted that her pal is competing on the Channel 5 reality TV show.

Taking to Instagram to praise Ryan - who was voted Vice President of the 'CBB' house on launch night on Thursday (16.08.18) - Catherine wrote: "This dude is one of the best . The kinda mate that you can phone at 3am and he'll come help you out if you need him. I know you'll smash #CelebrityBigBrother love because you're personality is top notch! Wears his heart on his sleeve and never ever fails to make me giggle. Love you to tiny pieces @ryanthomas84 - see you and your beaut @lucymeck1 very soon - now go forth and be the amazing person you are! #shine (sic)."

Ryan was the second star to enter the house, after former 'Cheers' star Kirstie Alley - who was given the title of President by Big Brother - and he spoke frankly about his financial woes in his VT while being introduced to viewers.

However, according to The Sun, he is being paid a massive £500,000 to take part in 'CBB'.

Meanwhile, Ryan was named early favourite to win the show, with odds of 3/1.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: "Ryan Thomas' character Jason Grimshaw is used to drama on the cobbles, which should stand him in good stead for a CBB stint."

And Coral's Harry Aitkenhead added: 'Soap stars are always extremely popular on these shows and as the contestants get ready to enter the house we make Ryan Thomas as our hot favourite to be the last one left standing."

Meanwhile, Ryan's girlfriend Lucy Mecklenburgh is said to be "very anxious" about him being on the show.

Her pal Ashley James told Digital Spy: "His lovely girlfriend Lucy Meck is my friend and she is very, very anxious but also excited. She says that she misses him already because obviously he doesn't have a phone. So yeah, I'm excited to see how he does."
