The campmates - including Vernon Kay, Victoria Derbyshire, Shane Richie and Beverley Callard - impressed in the Gates of Hell trial as the ITV show kicked off at Gwrych Castle, Abergele in North Wales on Sunday evening (15.11.20).

Moving from its usual Australian destination owing to the coronavirus pandemic, the first trial was inspired by the castle's medieval history, but of course the creepy crawlies were out in full force as all 10 of them took on the first trial.

Placed in individual cages as part of a huge gatehouse-like structure, the celebrities were tasked with passing stars to one another, either through perspex with magnets or through wire blocks with their bare hands. However, they weren't alone in their cages as cockroaches, crickets and other creepy crawlies were loaded on them during the 12 minutes.

The 10-strong team all faced the task and despite a little hold up because of Beverley, the contestants managed to secure seven stars towards their meal on their first night in camp.

Earlier in the evening, half the group had to abseil down the side of a cliff to secure not only their own, but also their celebrity partner's kit for the first night. In order to unlock the padlocks connecting them to the side of the cliff, they had to answer questions about their fellow celebrities.

Once succeeded, the celebrities made their way into the castle for the first time.

Victoria said: "The vibe from the group at this stage is a very warm one. I think we're going to have a lot of laughs, there's some funny people out there."

Meanwhile, it was also revealed that Jordan North and Shane Richie would be taking on the next trial, The Viper Vault.
