Dame Arlene Phillips opens up about fears ahead of her 'I'm A Celebrity' debut

The 78-year-old choreographer is set to become the oldest-ever contestant on the ITV show, but she is confident the low-calorie diet of rice and beans won't leave her too hungry.

She said: "I’ve done weekly fasts for a malaria charity I work with, so that wouldn’t bother me.

"All I can say is that I am the biggest coward in the world, I’m not courageous! Every time I watch the show, I absolutely admire those people who fearlessly enter into it. I’m the type of person who holds back."

The West End choreographer - who became a household name by appearing as a judge on 'Strictly Come Dancing' from 2004 until 2009 - also admits she is not a big fan of camping.

When asked what is like with creepy crawlies, she said: "I’d like to be better than I am. I’m not Miss Fearless!

"I am when it comes to my professional life – I just go and do it, but not with this kind of challenge.

"My family always laugh at me because they all camp and I’m definitely not a camper! My partner went camping when he was a kid and my girls have, and I’m like, 'No, I’m not lying on that and I’m not going to live in a tent.' "

Arlene also admitted she doesn't have any plans to retire anytime soon.

Speaking to OK! magazine, she added: "I’ve got some wonderful things coming up but I also pick and choose what I do and make sure I spend time with my grandkids, who I adore.

"As long as I wake up in the morning and think, 'I’m going to have a good day at work today,' I’ll keep going, as I love what I do."
