Next year, Ava DuVernay’s Central Park Five will premiere exclusively on Netflix, and this week has seen Felicity Huffman, Jharrel Jerome and Jovan Adepo announced as the series’ latest cast members. Huffman will take on the role of Linda Fairstein, the woman who headed the Manhattan district attorney’s sex crimes office during the case. Jerome meanwhile will play one of the wrongfully convicted five, Korey Wise, who spent 12 years in prison before being exonerated, alongside Adepo’s portrayal of the exonerated Antron McCray; another member of the wrongfully convicted group who spent six years in a New York State prison before being released.

Based on the true story that gripped the world, Central Park Five will explore the stories of five teenagers of colour who were eventually convicted of a rape they never committed. The four episode limited series will put a focus on the Harlem teens, spanning from the spring of 1989 when they were first questioned about the incident, all the way up to 2014 when they were eventually exonerated, and a settlement was reached with the city of New York.

DuVernay writes and directs, also serving as an executive producer alongside Participant media’s Jeff Skoll and Jonathan King, Harpo Films’ Oprah Winfrey, and Tribeca Productions’ Jane Rosenthal and Berry Welsh.

Central Park Five comes to Netflix at some point in 2019.
