Charlie Lawson has hinted Beverley Callard may have said she is vegan on 'I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!' as "a tactic".

The former 'Coronation Street' actor admitted it is "not a bad ploy" if his cobbles co-star told show bosses she abstains from chowing down on animals to avoid munching on the likes of deer testicle, sheep penis, goat’s eyes and cow’s tongue in the dreaded eating trials.

He said: "Well, maybe she is or isn’t a vegan. I couldn’t possibly comment. If it was a tactic, it meant you wouldn’t eat sheep’s b*******.

"So look I’m sure she is vegan, bless her. I wouldn’t know but it’s not a bad ploy if animal penis is on the menu."

Instead of chewing away on a deer's gonad and eating a sheep's member, Bev had to chow down on vomit fruit, fermented plums and fermented tofu in her eating trial this week, and she joked: "I’ve only been vegan since March," much to the amusement of co-hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly.

Bev's fellow campmate Jordan North has also been entertaining Ant and Dec with his reactions to trials, but Charlie wishes he would face his fears "quietly".

He said: "It’s been all about Shane [Richie], Vernon [Kay] and Bev and that noisy guy from Radio 1, Jordan.

"I would have thrown him over that cliff. He is very brave facing his fears, but I wish he would do it quietly."

Charlie - who played Jim McDonald, the husband of Bev's character Liz McDonald, on 'Corrie' - has turned down the chance to appear on 'I'm A Celebrity' twice, but confessed he is "far too angry and sweary" to go on the programme.

He added to the Daily Mirror newspaper: "They wanted me to lose my temper and get cross.

"I am probably far too angry and sweary. You have to agree not do any of that before you go in. I get the impression it’s not like the old days."
