The Sky Atlantic miniseries - which told the story of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster of April 1986 - earned 11 nominations for the main Virgin Media British Academy Television Awards, and three for the British Academy TV Craft Awards, as they were both announced together on Thursday morning (04.06.20).

Jared Harris is up for the Leading Actor prize for his role in 'Chernobyl', alongside The Capture's Callum Turner, Stephen Graham - for 'The Virtues' - and Takehiro Hira in 'Giri/ Haji', which earned six nods.

'Chernobyl' will be bidding for further success in the Mini-Series category, as the show once again takes on 'The Virtues', as well as 'A Confession', and 'The Victim'.

'The Crown' received seven BAFTA nominations, with three for the main awards, including the much-coveted Drama Series prize.

But the royal drama will face stiff competition from 'The End of the F***ing World', 'Giri/Haji', and 'Gentleman Jack', which received a second nod for Suranne Jones in the Leading Actress category.

She will go up against Samantha Morton ('I Am Kirsty'), Glenda Jackson ('Elizabeth is Missing') and Jodie Comer for her role in 'Killing Eve'.

The Crown's Helena Bonham Carter could also be rewarded for her role of Princess Margaret as she is up for the Supporting Actress prize, alongside The End of the F***ing World's Naomi Ackie, 'Top Boy' actress Jasmine Jobson, and Helen Behan ('The Virtues').

Other nods see medical dramas 'Holby City' and 'Casualty' both nominated for the Soap & Continuing Drama prize, alongside ITV soaps 'Emmerdale' and 'Coronation Street'.

Richard Ayoade is to present this year's Virgin Media British Academy Television Awards behind closed doors on July 31st, as the event - which was due to take place on May 17th - was postponed amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The awards will be broadcast live on BBC One but will follow current restrictions and take place in a closed studio with nominees invited to accept their awards virtually.

Yesterday (03.06.20), it was announced scenes from 'Gavin & Stacey', 'Game of Thrones', 'Love Island', 'Line of Duty', 'Fleabag', and 'Coronation Street' are up for the Virgin Media Must-See Moment accolade - the only award voted for by the public.
