'Coronation Street' dominates the soap nominations for this year's TV Choice Awards with five nods.

Four of the ITV show's stars are up for personal accolades, and the programme itself will do battle with fellow heavyweights 'EastEnders', 'Emmerdale' and 'Hollyoaks' for the coveted Best Soap prize.

Corrie's Shelley King is up for the Best Soap Actress accolade, after her character Yasmeen Metcalfe was subjected to months of abuse at the hands of her evil husband Geoff Metcalfe (Ian Bartholomew) until his death.

She will face competition from fellow cobbles star Sally Carman, whose alter-ego Abi Franklin was recently left devastated when her son Seb Franklin (Harry Visinoni) was beaten to death.

The pair are up against Emmerdale's Isobel Steele (Liv Flaherty), and 'EastEnders' actress Kellie Bright (Linda Carter), whose on-screen husband Danny Dyer (Mick Carter) has a nod in the Best Soap Actor category.

The 'Football Factory' star is up against Emmerdale's Bradley Johnson (Vinny Dingle) and 'Corrie' duo Chris Gascoyne (Peter Barlow) and David Neilson, whose character Roy Cropper's niece Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher) was also attacked by the thugs who killed Seb, but she survived.

Corrie's quintet of nods comes after the show won Best Soap/ Continuing Drama at the Broadcast Awards last month, triumphing over rivals 'Emmerdale', 'Hollyoaks', and 'Casualty'.

A tweet on the official 'Corrie' Twitter account read: "Everyone at Coronation Street is absolutely thrilled! Thank you @BroadcastAwards Raising hands #TeamCorrie #BroadcastAwards (sic)"

The soap clinched the accolade for an episode surrounding the hard-hitting coercive control plot involving Shelley and Ian's characters.

Rob Beckett will host this year's virtual ceremony, which will be the 25th TV Choice Awards, on September 6th.

Shortlist voting is open from today until midnight on June 25th.
