The 20-year-old actress - who has played the bullied school girl in the soap for 21 months - has asked bosses of the long-running programme to recruit a new handsome cast member so that her innocent alter ego can finally have some happiness in her life.

Speaking to the Daily Star newspaper, she said: "Bethany needs a boyfriend, I hope they bring in a new character for her. Unfortunately she's already pied-off Craig [Tinker, played by Colson Smith] so he's not in with a shout and there doesn't seem to be anyone else on the street. If she could find a nice boy, not someone who will make her do anything bad like drugs or go after her mum, that would be a really nice end to the year. I have no idea whether it will happen though!"

However, the blonde star doesn't think love will be on the cards for her character any time soon as she's teased that her on-screen family The Platts are set for more trauma this winter as they're part of the show's highly-anticipated Super Soap Month, which promises huge events in 'Coronation Street' and its sister show 'Emmerdale', in October.

She explained: "It's really explosive but I can't say a lot. It's going to be amazing and I am so excited. It all kicks off for the Platts again."

Lucy remained tight lipped on the details of the forthcoming scenes, but she did reveal that David Platt [played by Jack P. Shepherd] will be a big part of the drama as he's still not over the death of wife Kylie [Paula Lane] and is determined to seek revenge.

She said: "David is still not over Kylie's death and he goes all out for revenge.

"I love working with Jack. He is brilliant fun on set and plays David's character so well. He goes off the rails - I can't wait."
