Gangsta Granny: The Ride

The 'Britain's Got Talent' judge's most popular novel has inspired the resort's latest new family attraction, where guests join the book's main characters as they attempt to steal the Crown Jewels, and with the opening date of 17 May growing ever closer, the 49-year-old star is getting more excited about seeing his literary creations come to life.

Speaking after some new images of Gangsta Granny: The Ride from ‘The World of David Walliams’ were unveiled, David said: “I can’t wait for Gangsta Granny: The Ride to finally come to life and open its doors to families.

“The latest images really showcase the amazing production behind the ride and it’s a real delight to see my characters brought to life”.

And it isn't just one ride that fans of the author can enjoy because there will also be Gangsta Granny-themed bedrooms in the Alton Towers Hotel, and an entire area of the park has been transformed to pay homage to 'The World of David Walliams', meaning guests can pick up a crazy bargain in Raj’s Shop, race on a regal thoroughbred on the Royal Carousel and giggle with delight on Raj’s Bouncy Bottom Burp, as well as a number of other fun surprises.

David previously admitted he "never thought" his 2011 novel would be turned into a ride.

He said: "After working closely with the design team from Alton Towers, what I really wanted was for the ride to be truthful to the book and the characters. I'm thrilled there's going to be a Gangsta Granny ride at Alton Towers. I mean, I never thought that would happen. I didn't sit down writing the book and think one day, it'll be a ride."
