Dawn French has been left heartbroken following Gary Waldhorn's death

The 'Vicar of Dibley' actress took to Instagram to pay tribute to her fellow co-star, who "peacefully passed away" aged 78 on Monday (10.01.22).

Dawn shared a picture of Gary - who starred as Councillor David Horton in hit sitcom - and a broken heart emoji.

'My Family' star Robert Lindsay also paid tribute to Gary.

He wrote on Twitter: "And during all this madness news of dear #garywaldhorn passing

Such great memories of working with him and my wonderful pal Trevor Peacock at @rxtheatre (sic)"

Gary's son Josh revealed yesterday (11.01.22) that his father had died.

He said in a statement: "My beloved father, Gary Waldhorn peacefully passed away at 6.45am on January 10 2022. Classically trained, it was the theatre where he truly flourished and he leaves a legacy of entertainment that saw him frequent the boards of Broadway, the West End and our living rooms on the telly! He leaves behind his two grandsons, Cooper and Bayley, and his son Josh. We will all miss him terribly.”

It comes after five other major cast members from 'The Vicar of Dibley' have tragically passed away.

Trevor Peacock (Jim Trott) died in March last year aged 89, John Bluthal (Frank Pickle) passed away in 2018 aged 89, and Liz Smith (Letitia Cropley) died in 2016 just three days before she was due to turn 95.

What's more, Emma Chambers (Alice Tinker) died of a heart attack in 2018 aged 53, and Roger Lloyd-Pack (Owen Newitt) passed away in 2014 aged 69.
