The British-French crime drama sees Ardal O'Hanlon return as Saint Marie Police Department's lead detective Jack Mooney, alongside Tobi Bakare, Shyko Amos, Don Warrington and Elizabeth Bourgine.

Whilst Aude Legastelois - who appeared in the last two episodes of the eighth season - is set to replace Josephine Jobert as new team member Madeleine Dumas.

The BBC has ordered two more seasons of the popular show, and on Tuesday (21.05.19) it was confirmed that the cast and crew were back in the Caribbean.

Executive producer Tim Key teased that there will be "some big surprises coming" up.

He said: "We're thrilled to be back in Guadeloupe with our fantastic cast and crew getting to work on more ingenious murder mysteries in the Caribbean sun.

"We can't wait for the audience to see what we've got in store for series nine - there are some big surprises coming."

The hit show first launched in 2011 and has previously starred the likes of 'My Family' actor Kris Marshall and comic Ben Miller.

Meanwhile, on landing a permanent role, Aude said previously: "I'm thrilled that I've been given the opportunity to continue my role as Madeleine and to rejoin the cast of 'Death in Paradise'. I can't wait for Madeleine to be fully integrated into the Honoré Police team and for the viewers to get to know her further."

Tobi - who plays JP Hooper - was sad when Josephine, who portrayed Detective Sergeant Florence Cassel, left the programme as they both bonded when they joined the cast at the same time.

In the show, DS Florence left the police force following the tragic death of her fiancé Patrice.

Tobi said: "Me and Josie started in the same year - we started in Season Four. Though she started a couple of episodes before me, we were still getting to know the whole thing [together]. We were still learning."

'Death in Paradise' is broadcast on BBC One in the UK and France 2 in France and returns later this year.
