The actress' character Anna Windass swapped Weatherfield for prison in January, after she was framed and then found guilty by a jury of causing grievous bodily harm to Seb Franklin (Harry Visinoni).

She returned to the cobbles for Friday's (01.06.18) shocking episode after striking a deal with police to help them lure evil Phelan back to Weatherfield but things went wrong when Pat shot Michelle Connor and his daughter Nicola before Anna stabbed him.

Debbie told the Daily Mirror: "I always knew that Anna was going to get her revenge. I don't think any of our viewers have had any sort of inkling that Anna was going to turn up on the street. I hope they're surprised."

Asked how she thinks Anna feels when she stabs Pat, who previously left her devastated after blackmailing her into sex, she said: "I think she probably feels utter joy! And probably great relief that he's finally gone and that feeling of when she looks into his eyes and she knows, more or less, that it's a fatal blow.

"But they don't know this for definite until he gets told, 'Don't pull the knife out'. And he thinks he's getting the last laugh until right at the end when Anna tells him that she's won."

Meanwhile, Connor McIntyre, who played villain Pat, paid tribute to the soap and his character after his departure.

He tweeted: "I am overwhelmed by your Tweets tonight Tweeps, far too many to reply to individually. I am deeply touched and deeply grateful. Thank you. I have said it before ... you are the best. xx xx #GoodnightFromMe #GoodnightFromHim
