'The X Factor' should go on a break, according to advice from ex-contestant Diana Vickers.

The 22-year-old singer - who shot to fame after finishing fourth on the ITV talent show in 2008 - has called for the programme to be taken off air for a few years because she believes people will "appreciate it more" if it disappeared and then came back at a later date.

She said: "I think maybe it should go away for a few years and come back again fresh.

"When you see something too much it's good to step away from it and then come back to it. It makes you appreciate it a bit more."

The blonde beauty admits she doesn't tune into 'The X Factor' on a regular basis, and while she still gets spotted on the street by fans, she no longer hears people doing impressions of the show's voiceover guy Peter Dickson saying her name in his loud voice.

When asked if she still watches the show, she replied to FHM magazine: "I don't really. It's not like I stay away from it on purpose - if there's great talent and people are talking about it, I'll check it out, but I don't watch it religiously.

"I do get stopped a fair bit, but I haven't had the voice thing in years. Only drunken guys up north!"
