Recently, Disney+ released the gripping, suspenseful trailer for upcoming series Dopesick, set to focus on how America was plagued by an opiate addiction.

Dopesick is based on Beth Macy’s New York Times bestselling book, and has a stellar cast attached to it, such as Michael Keaton (Spider-Man: Homecoming), Peter Sarsgaard (Orphan), Michael Stuhlbarg (Arrival), Will Poulter (We’re the Millers), John Hoogenakker (Contagion), with Kaitlyn Dever (Bad Teacher) and Rosario Dawson (Zombieland: Double Tap).

The series will look into how a single company essentially created the worst drug epidemic in American history. Viewers will see the worst of the opioid addiction and the struggles caused by it; from Big Pharma’s boardrooms to a stressed and irate Virginian mining community, and down the hallways of the DEA (drug enforcement administration).

Not caring how long or what it takes, a small team of heroes will rise above the chaos to take down the corporate evil that has instilled a sense of panic, danger, and the potential for death across the United States.

The trailer for Dopesick showcases the cast in challenging roles which they all seem to be settling into very well. We’re shown panicked citizens, concerned families, and we see those who have been affected by the drug that one man has been telling professionals has a “less than one percent chance” of becoming addictive.

The trailer also shows how major companies can, quite literally, sell lies, as the drug in question seems to be getting more than the under one percent addicted, despite promises made that the drug would be safe for America.

Dopesick is written by Danny Strong, the Emmy award winner behind Empire, and is directed by Oscar winning director, Barry Levinson, who also directed Rain Man (1988). Strong also serves as executive producer for the show, as well as John Goldwyn (Dexter), along with Keaton, Levinson, Warren Littlefield (The Handmaid’s Tale), Karen Rosenfelt (Twilight), and Beth Macy, author of Dopesick.

With such a brilliant and talented team working on this project, there is no doubt that it will be a hard-hitting, deep and impactful series aimed at telling the truth behind America’s worst drug epidemic in history.

Dopesick will arrive on Disney+ on Disney+ Day, November 12th, 2021 in the UK with the first two episodes; the other six episodes will release every Wednesday.
