The 'Risk It All' singer found fame on Simon Cowell's show back in 2012, and although she came sixth her music career soon took off and has been going strong ever since.

Ella was not surprised to see the news that Cowell, 61, and ITV were shelving 'The X Factor' after 17 years because she thinks the programme had gotten tired.

She told the Daily Star newspaper's Wired column: "I think sometimes things do need a break – with anything. You can’t have your foot on the gas the whole time as things tend to burn out. I think it will be refreshing.”

But Ella is confident the show could make a return to screens if the format changes and Simon and the producers embrace social media platforms such as TikTok to make pop stars that go viral.

She added: "There has to be something, whether it is that show or another singing talent show, as I think everybody as a nation loves that. It just needs a new way of how it’s going to be done in the future maybe.

“Now so much is based online, TikTok is huge now, and there’s so much done with videos going viral. So I think it will be interesting in the near future if something like that could take off.

Cowell decided to pull the plug on his hit show due to its falling ratings and fading cultural significance but there is a chance he could resurrect 'The X Factor' in the future.

Back in July, a source said: "Globally, it is still a phenomenon and rakes in millions every year. But in the UK, there is no question it has become slightly stale.

“Simon remains at the top of his game and knows how to make a hit. He owns the rights to the show, and it’s his call — not ITV’s — whether or not he drops it.

“Clearly the last thing he wants is for 'X Factor' to fizzle out with a whimper and become a bit of a joke — especially in contrast to the show in its pomp."
