The 30-year-old actor's bride-to-be Steph Jones recently gave birth to their first child and they chose the moniker as a tribute to her late grandfather, who was a big part of her life.

Speaking to OK! magazine, he said: "I’ve loved the name from when I was a kid.

"Steph’s granddad was called Albert but when we were in school I just knew him as Steph’s granddad, so when I suggested it, I didn’t know it was her granddad’s name."

Danny - who plays Aaron Dingle in the ITV soap - also spilled that he “was in bits” at the birth and since bringing Albert home he is "more in love" with Steph than ever before.

He said: "I was in bits. I was very emotional.

"I think it was just the anticipation of waiting for nine months to meet them and then finally being able to say that the baby is here and he’s safe and sound.

"It’s made me much more in love with Steph, too. I was absolutely in awe of her and we’re absolutely in awe of him. He’s only been here a couple of weeks and I don’t know what I’d do without him. When he arrived I just ending up staring at him for five hours straight."

And Steph - who delivered Alfred on October 25 - thought it was a “sign” when Danny suggested the name.

She said: "Danny said to me, 'I’ve got a name that I really love but I’m not sure what you’ll think about it,' and then when he said 'Albert', I said it must be a sign as that was my granddad’s name.

"My mum was really pleased as it was her dad.

"It was really emotional for her."

And Danny also revealed that he’s pleased Albert can now be a part of their upcoming wedding.

He added: "I think it feels like more of a family event now Albert is here.

"I’ve always wanted to marry Steph, but now Albert will be a part of it."
