As Crime + Investigation original series I Am A Killer continues, in partnership with Netflix and Sky Vision Productions, we’ve got our hands on an exclusive first look clip from tonight’s (June 12) new episode. Focusing on the story of Justin Wiley Dickens – a man who was sentenced to death back in 1995 for a homicide, the episode will go deeper into his crimes, which saw him rob a jewellery and pawn shop in Amarillo. You can check out the first look teaser below:

With no prior prison record, and a co-defendant who received 25 years in jail for murder, it’d be fair to say that Dickens was treated incredibly differently to his partner in crime. Aged just 17 at the time of the killing of Francis ‘Allen’ Carter, Dickens was told he would spend the rest of his life behind bars in Texas, before being killed by the state.

Dickens has always claimed that he accidentally killed Carter, saying that the gun went off accidentally when Carter had tried to wrestle the firearm away from him. Found guilty of capital murder, he would go on to spend a decade on death row, until a law change saw his sentence reduced to life with a minimum term of 40 years.

This means that Dickens will be eligible to apply for parole in March 2034. We can’t wait to find out more about his story…

I Am A Killer airs Tuesdays at 9pm on Crime + Investigation (Sky 156, Virgin 275, BT 328 and TalkTalk 328).
