American Gods creator Neil Gaiman has officially announced the start of production on the second season of the critically-acclaimed show, which dropped its debut season last year to much acclaim. Though season 2 won’t be hitting the screen until 2019, fans can now rest assured that work is underway on turning it into a batch of episodes those working behind-the-scenes can be proud of!

Gaiman – who wrote the novel on which the series is based – released the above video today (April 30, 2018) on his personal Twitter account, showcasing the set of The House on the Rock and including shout-outs from cast members Ricky Whittle who plays lead Shadow Moon, and Yetide Badaki who takes on the role of fan-favourite, Bilquis.

Ian McShane will be returning to his role of Mr. Wednesday in the show, with Emily Browning also back as Shadow’s (now dead) wife, Laura Moon. Pablo Schreiber is also back as Mad Sweeney, with Bruce Langley as Tech Boy and Kirstin Chenoweth as Easter.

Gillian Anderson will not be returning to the series despite the viewers lapping her up as Media in season 1, so we’re very excited to see just who will be stepping in to take over, along with the addition of some new characters!

This isn’t the only series based on Gaiman’s work being worked on, with Prime Original series Good Omens – based on the popular novel from Gaiman and Terry Pratchett – also set to launch on Prime Video around the world at some point in 2019. Michael Sheen, David Tennant, Sam Taylor Buck, and Lourdes Faberes will all star in the show.

American Gods season 1 is currently available in the UK exclusively on Amazon Prime Video for Prime or Prime Video members to stream or download now. We’ll bring you more news on the show’s second season as and when we get it.
