Netflix have today (September 29th, 2020) has seen the release of nine new first look images from the highly-anticipated fourth season of critically-acclaimed Netflix original series, The Crown. This time round, the show will debut Gillian Anderson as Margaret Thatcher (as well as Emma Corrin as Princess Diana) - and the pair can be seen in some of the images unveiled by the streaming service.

Inspired by the award-winning play The Audience, the series tells the inside story of the decades-long reign of Queen Elizabeth II, enjoying a time jump every two seasons so that some of the most iconic and memorable parts of her leadership can be showcased.

When we catch up with the show, we'll see the 1970s coming to an end, with Queen Elizabeth (Olivia Colman) and the rest of her family finding themselves preoccupied with safeguarding the line of succession, by securing an appropriate bride for Prince Charles (Josh O'Connor). Still unmarried at 30, they feel a duty to the country to ensure that he finally settles down.

Charles enjoys a romance with the young Lady Diana Spencer (Corrin), which provides a much-needed distraction to the British people. However, behind closed doors, the Royal Family are becoming more divided than ever before.

Of course, the end of the 70s was also a time of political unrest, as the country welcomed Britain's first female Prime Minister in Margaret Thatcher (Anderson) who introduced highly-divisive policies that split the nation. Queen Elizabeth also sees tension rise with the new PM, who drags the country into the Falklands War, generating conflict within the Commonwealth.
