Amazon Prime Video have today released their first look at Jensen Ackles in the Soldier Boy Super Suit for the upcoming third season of their hit original series, The Boys.
Designed by concept artist Greg Hopwood before being brought to life by designer Laura Jean Shannon, it's instantly clear that a lot of passion and dedication has been put into the Super Suit.
When designing the Soldier Boy Super Suit, Shannon noted, “Soldier Boy is the original bad ass. Our goal was to highlight a bygone era of overt masculinity and grit. With that pedigree we dove headfirst into baking in an all-American quality grounded in a military soldier’s practicality with a heavy dose of old school cowboy swagger. We knew that the actor had to have Steve McQueen looks and chops with a John Wayne attitude, luckily Jensen Ackles embodies all of that.”
Showrunner Eric Kripke knew the importance of the Super Suit, saying, “When I cast Jensen as Soldier Boy, the first thing I said was, ‘I’m most excited for you, because of the amazing process you’ll go through with LJ, our Super Suit designer.’ It took six months but the experience surpassed Jensen’s expectations. LJ has made a work of art that tips its hat to the WWII Soldier Boy from the comics, while taking it in a sleek new direction. And if you think the photos are cool, just wait till you see Jensen in action. It’s one of my very favourite suits. Also, now you can quit clogging my Twitter notifications with demands to see it.”
The comic-book inspired drama will see Ackles take on the role of the world's original superhero, who was created in the 1940s by Compound V. Having fought in World War II and killing German soldiers without remorse, he became the first super celebrity and a true American hero.
Those who have read the comics will recognise Soldier Boy as the leader of the second-strongest superhero squad (behind the Seven), Payback. Whilst he wanted to join the Seven, he wasn't successful after mistakingly believing he had to sleep with the villainous Homelander to gain entry.
As a fan-favourite character, it's going to be very interesting to see how audiences respond to Soldier Boy when he does finally make it to the small screen.
The Boys Seasons 1-2 are available now on Amazon Prime Video; we'll bring you news on a Season 3 release date as and when we get it.
