With Game of Thrones season 7 now quite literally right around the corner, the stars of the show are opening up about what we may be able to expect from the seven new episodes hitting the small screen this year, and if Lena Headey’s recent comments to the New York Times are anything to go by, Cersei Lannister could be in for a rough ride.

Asked who’d end up on the Iron Throne in the end, Headey said: “It can’t be me because I’m already there. So I’m f**ked!”

She continued: “She’s not having a good time – there you go. Apparently, winter is really coming, finally.” Headey went on to explain why she thinks Sophie Turner’s character Sansa Stark will also not be the one to rule when all is said and done.

“She’s kept a clear head in spite of all the crap she’s been through,” she said. “But I don’t think she has any desire for the throne.”

With feature-length episodes set to make up the seventh season – which will serve as the series’ penultimate outing – those behind the critically-acclaimed fantasy series will be gearing up to wind things down with season 7. We can’t wait to see what happens.

Game of Thrones returns to HBO in the US on Sunday, July 16 on to Sky Atlantic in the UK on Monday, July 17.
