It's been revealed that Gary Barlow used an autocue on Sunday night for his live show performance.

The show judge took to the stage with Sir Elton John in the series finale for their 'Face to Face' duet, but they both required on-screen prompts to help them with the lyrics.

The 42-year-old singer has since been branded a "hypocrite" on Twitter by fans after he slammed wannabe star Tamera Foster for forgetting her words twice during the live shows.

Richard McGill said: "Why is Gary Barlow using autocue? Can he not remember the words?"

Laura Mo added: "So Tamera gets stick for forgetting her words but it's ok for Gary & Elton to have screens with words next to them??!! (sic)".

However, show bosses insist the pair have only performed the track once before and didn't want to make a fool of themselves in front of the audience at Wembley Arena in London.

An insider told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Gary and Elton have only performed the song together once before, and that was for the recording of the single itself, which they did in just 30 minutes of a four-hour recording session and video shoot.

"This was a huge gig for them both, in front of 9.7 million people, so they couldn't really take any chances.

"Both of them have a huge back catalogue of songs that they have remembered the lyrics to throughout their careers. It doesn't hurt to have a little helping hand with new material."
