The 'Only Way is Essex' star is planning to marry James 'Arg' Argent in a couple of years but after admitting the pair piled on the pounds over the summer, she is keen to start eating well and "working hard" with her skates on ready for James to pop the question.

She said: "I'm mainly doing the show for the amazing outfits and as a way of losing weight.

"If I commit myself to training and eating well I think I could really get in shape by doing the show.

"I want to get married in the next few years and I don't want to be fat for my wedding day.

"We've both put on a lot of weight over the summer so now it's time to work hard and get in shape."

While Gemma, 37, admits she is "a little" nervous about hurting herself on the ice, she is determined to put on a good show for the audience.

She added: "I'm going to be in good hands with whoever I'm partnered with. I'm not deluded, I know no one is going to be able to lift me up on the ice, but I'm going to throw myself into it and give the audience a good show."

James, 30, insists Gemma will "prove all the doubters wrong" on the programme, and has praised his significant other for being so hard-working.

Speaking in a joint interview with OK! magazine, he said: "A lot of people think Gemma's going to be a bit of a joke act or quit when it gets too hard, but she's going to prove all the doubters wrong.

"I'm constantly impressed with how hard Gemma works. If she isn't filming for 'TOWIE' she's working in one of her shops or planning her next project.

"I'm very proud of her. I'm going to be in the audience every week cheering her on."

Arg's comments come after Lorraine Kelly predicted Gemma will "walk out on episode one" of 'Dancing on Ice'.

The TV presenter recently said: "She won't do it. You know she's going to walk out on episode one ... or even before that."
