The 'Masterchef' co-host was diagnosed with diverticulitis last year, a digestive condition that affects the large intestine, and as a result the BBC presenter has monitor his alcohol consumption and how much fiery food he eats because it can play havoc with his stomach.

He is quoted by the Daily Mirror newspaper as saying: "When they're irritated, you've got to watch alcohol and spicy food. We were eating chillis yesterday.

"Before that I had a massive skinful of beer in Dublin - and it was already playing up.

"I forgot, because I'd been so well. But yesterday I was ill. I'm turning into one of those old people who has things wrong with them."

Gregg - who lost three stone six years ago because of high cholesterol levels - previously revealed he is expecting his first child with his wife Anne-Marie, 32, and they are planning to call the youngster Sid Massimo Wallace.

He said: "We were due to start IVF but then it happened naturally after two years of trying. The doctor told us it was a miracle Anna was pregnant."

The former greengrocer - who has two kids, Tom, 24, and Libby, 21, from his second marriage to ex Denise - is only planning to have one child with his spouse because he is "too old", but was overcome with emotion when he heard his son's heartbeat at his baby's scan.

He added: "Seeing a scan of our baby son and the strength of his heartbeat made me cry. We've agreed to only have one child together - I'm too old."
