The 49-year-old actor - who rose to fame as Kurt Benson in the Channel 4 soap - believes 'Hollyoaks' has always had a young and attractive cast , which is why the show has spawned so many international stars.

Jeremy explained: "I think 'Hollyoaks' is the most successful soap in terms of former cast members going on to do well.

"Maybe it's because they're younger and they're all good looking. The cast have a drive that perhaps other soaps don't have. People are ambitious."

'Hollyoaks' has helped to launch the careers of stars like Nathalie Emmanuel and Ricky Whittle.

And Jeremy believes the show deserves to be given more credit than it currently receives.

He told the Daily Star newspaper's Hot TV column: "I don't think 'Hollyoaks' gets the credit it deserves.

"We were panned when it first started. But everyone has really worked hard and it has produced some terrific actors."

Jeremy previously admitted he feels "very proud" to be associated with the soap.

He said: "It's a great show, I'm very proud of it.

"People still remember me from it and they come up and shake my hand and that's a really lovely thing to have - I feel very privileged because it could have crashed and burned, a lot of shows do.

"I'm very lucky that I get the benefit of that."
