Durecent Tuesday night's (19.11.19) episode, Sienna Blake - played by Anna Passey - was seen bickering with on-screen boyfriend Brody Hudson (Adam Woodward) as she argued that the 1992 festive classic was the best Christmas film of all time.

In a post-credits scene, Sienna was seen watching the movie as she mumbled to herself: "The Ghost of Christmas Past is such a creepy child."

The seemingly throwaway line actually referenced the fact that Jessica - who plays Sienna's longtime rival Nancy Osborne on 'Hollyoaks' - voiced the character in the Muppet's adaptation of Charles Dickens' cautionary tale when she was much younger.

Fans were delighted with the subtle nod to her past, and many took to Twitter to point out the clever line.

One viewer wrote: "Loving the inside joke about the ghost of Christmas past in @Hollyoaks I'm sad enough to know its Jessica Fox #hollyoaks #siennaversesnancy (sic)"

Another fan tweeted: "Jokes!!! @Hollyoaks #e4FirstLook The ghost of Christmas past is played by a horrible child!!! It was only Nancy back in the day @JesslaFox ... Cruel Sienna!! (sic)"

Jessica, now 36, enjoyed a lot of success as a child actress, and early in her career she played the likes of Anthea in 1997's 'The Phoenix and the Carpet' and Enid Nightshade in 'The Worst Witch'.

Meanwhile, she was part of an all-star cast in 'The Muppet Christmas Carol', with Michael Caine taking the lead as Ebenezer Scrooge amongst a Muppet cast featuring the likes of Kermit the Frog (Bob Cratchit), The Great Gonzo (Dickens and narrator), and Waldorf and Statler as Robert and Jacob Marley.
