Disney+ have unveiled the first trailer for the upcoming original series How I Met Your Father, a spinoff of the hugely-successful comedy How I Met Your Mother, which will debut on the streaming service under the Star banner.

Hilary Duff takes on the lead role in the show as Sophie, who tells her son the story of how she and his father met. Taking us back to the year 2021, audiences will see Sophie and her group of friends trying to figure out exactly who they are, where they want to go in life and, exactly how to fall in love when the dating world has been taken over by techology and limitless options.

Written by Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, the 10-episode debut season also stars the likes of Christopher Lowell, Francia Raisa, Tom Ainsley, Tien Tran and Suraj Sharma. Recurring guests include Kim Cattrall, Daniel Augustin, Ashley Reyes and Josh Peck.

The show has already debuted in the United States on the Hulu platform, to mixed reviews. Despite this, the series was renewed for a second season with double the amount of episodes, so new audiences can rest easy in knowing that the story won't be left on a cliffhanger after Season 1.

Duff not only stars, but serves as a producer, with writers Aptaker and Berger as executive producers alongside Carter Bays, Craig Thomas, Pam Fryman and Adam Londy.

With episodes between 22 and 25 minutes, their bitesize format means that they'll be easily consumable and likely make for an extremely bingeable offering. We can't wait to check it out and see if it lives up to the legacy set before it, by How I Met Your Mother.

Alongside the trailer, a poster for the series was released, which you can see for yourself below:
