The ITV sitcom is due to air its final ever episode on Wednesday night (02.05.18) after 10 series of the popular comedy, but the 48-year-old actor - who plays Mateo Castellanos in the show - has dropped a huge hint that the programme may not be over.

He wrote on Twitter: "Its WEDNESDAY!!! The day of the @BenidormTVshow 9PM on @ITV This last episode of the current series is fun packed with laughs and guest stars!!! You're in for a treat! It's been a great series. One of my favs! Is there a next series? I'm saying nothing [winky emoji] #benidorm #Benidorm10 (sic)"

Tony Maudsley - who plays Kenneth DuBeke in the comedy series - also took to social media to encourage fans to tune in tonight, and he inadvertently added fuel to Jake's fire by failing to mention the episode will be the final ever in 'Benidorm' history.

He wrote: "Yay! It's BENIDAY!! Join us for @BenidormTVshow at 9pm on @ITV to bid a fond farewell to Series 10. What a blast we've had - one of my favourite seasons ever!! You're gonna LOVE tonight's ep. It's wicked! It promises to be a good old traditional Benidorm finale so DON'T BE LATE!! (sic)"

Jake and Tony's comments come after 'Benidorm' creator Derren Litten announced Wednesday's show will be the last one.

He tweeted: "Crazy to think Wednesday will be the last episode of Benidorm! I created the series over 11 years ago, wrote it, guest starred in it and ended up directing it. It's difficult to think what else there is to do! Thank you for watching! #MuchasGracias (sic)"

Tonight's episode will feature a special cameo from former 'Brookside' star Claire Sweeney.

She tweeted: "Thrilled to be appearing in @BenidormTVshow tonight written and directed by the brilliant @DerrenLitten thanks Derren I love Maxine! Had a ball with the legend @TheHollyJohnson @LaytonWilliams and my pal @TonyMaudsley1 thanks Hun xxxx (sic)"
