James Anderson

James Anderson has quit 'Holby City'.

The 32-year-old actor - who played Oliver Valentine in the BBC medical drama - was seen bowing out of the show last night (10.07.13) as his fallible character left for a fresh start, but James admits although he'll miss the show, it was time for him to leave and try different career avenues.

He said: "I had done four and a half years, so I felt that it was time to spread my wings and possibly see what else is out there for me. It was a good time to go, because I've been very lucky with having such a great story for a long time."

James - who filmed his last scenes four months ago - chose to keep his departure unwraps until the emotional exit was aired on television because he didn't want to ruin the surprise for viewers, but claims he had the urge to blurt it out on Twitter.

Speaking to Digital Spy, he explained: "I have wanted to talk about it, so it's been very difficult! However, I think if you're a fan of the show, it would have been a bit of a shame to know in advance that Oliver was leaving.

"If you know all of the spoilers before you see the episode, it ruins the surprise, so I felt that it was important to keep it secret."
