The 'Corrie' star is currently on a break from the ITV soap until the new year and while he is unsure of the direction his character Ali Neeson will be going until he meets with producer Iain MacLeod this week, James will be sticking around on the cobbles for another year after putting pen to paper on a new deal.

Speaking at the Inside Soap Awards at London's 100 Wardour Street on Monday night (22.10.18), he exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "I can say I've just signed a new contract so I'm not going anywhere just yet. With regards to the storyline, I have no clue.

"I'm going to have a meeting with Iain this week, so I'll find out the plans for Ali then.

"I'm happy, it's a great place to work, there are some great people there. It's good fun."

Ali has been involved in a hard-hitting storyline of late when he killed evil drug dealer Ronan Truman (Alan McKenna) to stop him terrorising his family, and James is enjoying having some time off from the show to "clear the head", during which he has been indulging in some surfing.

He added: "It's been an emotional rollercoaster. It's been nice to have a little bit of time off, every scene has been very emotional. You can take that home with you a little bit at times as well.

"So it's nice to clear the head and I'm looking forward to going back in the new year."

James admitted there is help at hand on the 'Corrie' set should any of the actors need to see a counsellor about their storylines.

He said: "There's a counsellor on set if you want to have a chat with them. I haven't needed to do that yet. They've not pushed me that far yet.

"It's great - everyone is very supportive at work.

"I'm oblivious about what's going to happen in the new year so I'm quite excited about where they're going to take it. I like that though, I like not knowing."
