The 56-year-old TV presenter admitted that his days as part of a presenting trio on the Amazon Prime Video show with Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond could be numbered because he doesn't want "to fall apart in public".

James told The Sun's Bizarre TV column: "How do I feel about ageing? Bad. I'm in the second half of my fifties now and in all honesty, I'm slightly falling apart.

"I'm developing nervous disorders and aches and I don't think I'll do this much longer because I don't want to fall apart in public.

"It would just be a bit undignified and I don't think people want to see it."

And James - who started hosting 'Top Gear' with Jeremy, 59, and Richard, 50, in 2003 - admitted that the show's days could be numbered, calling Jeremy "even more decrepit than me".

He said: "There's almost certainly more of it behind us than in front of us. How long do you want to see old blokes?

"Jeremy's possibly even more decrepit than me. When it takes us 15 minutes to get out of a Ferrari, do you really want to see that? It's sad."

Meanwhile, James filmed a new solo six-part Amazon documentary, 'Our Man In Japan', and previously revealed he loved the freedom of being away from his fellow presenters Richard and Jeremy.

He said: "It was fantastic. I don't miss the other two as I can just talk about what I want, so it makes it a lot easier."
