Jane Horrocks doesn't think 'Absolutely Fabulous' could be made in the same way "for today's television".

The 56-year-old actress - who played Bubble in the hit 1990s sitcom - has suggested creator Jennifer Saunders would have a hard time getting some of her jokes and storylines past producers nowadays.

She told The Sun newspaper's Bizarre TV column: "When Jennifer started writing Ab Fab, in the first few series nobody bothered her at all.

"She had free rein to write what she wanted and there were no producers who interfered with her work. They didn't say, 'You can't write that', or, 'You have to write that'.

"I think that she personally would have a very different experience writing for today's television because I don't think she would be allowed free rein.

"I think Jennifer might struggle with the restrictions she would have to adhere to."

Joanna Lumley - who played Patsy Stone opposite Jennifer's Eddie Monsoon in the BBC show - previously suggested the comedy's creator has no interest in writing more episodes.

When asked whether rumours 'Absolutely Fabulous' could be coming back are true, she said: "I don't think it will be, I don't think Jennifer ever wants to write any more 'Ab Fab'.

"But it never really goes away, there's a feeling that these characters still exist somewhere."

However, 'The New Avengers' star would love to collaborate with her co-star again, and admitted there could be something on the cards.

But she doesn't think it would make sense to create another 'Ab Fab' episode without the late June Whitfield - who portrayed Eddie's mother in the series - after she passed away in December 2018 aged 93.

She said: "I would be so nice to do something. Jennifer and I are in constant contact and we are half thinking of something, but it won't be 'Ab Fab' the reunion.

"And also, I don't think we should do it without June Whitfield. But maybe something, I don't know. Never say never."
