Jane McDonald has quit 'Loose Women' after an "incredible 10 years".

The 50-year-old singer joined the daytime show as a panellist in 2004 but the programme is continuing a trend towards younger hosts after Denise van Outen, 39, Rochelle Humes, 24, and 37-year-old Angela Griffin were introduced in an attempt to give it a boost.

In a message posted on her Twitter account, Jane noted she will be taking the chance to tour again and embrace her music career.

She wrote: "It has been an incredible 10 years for me on Loose Women and I've loved every minute of it.

"I've got a busy and exciting year coming up with a new album and national concert tour. So the time is right for me to step aside from 'Loose Women' and concentrate on new opportunities.

"I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again on tour and I thank you all for your continued support, loyalty and best wishes."

An ITV insider told The Sun on Sunday the show bosses want younger presenters like Myleene Klass and 33-year-old Jamelia.

'Loose Women' panelist Jane McDonald has quit the daytime show after a decade and she has described her time there as "an incredible 10 years".

The source added: "The new ITV boss is clearly going in a different direction. The tone of the show is about the issues of the day from a female perspective.

"It's part of the move to appear more credible - there will be more discussion about hard topics and less inane chat about blokes."

Meanwhile, a spokeswoman for ITV praised the "fantastic" departing panellist.

She said: "Jane has been a fantastic Loose Woman. We'll miss her."
