Jeremy Clarkson is "miserable" over the reported breakdown of his marriage.

The 'Top Gear' presenter's wife Frances - who is credited with running his career - is said to have grown tired of his "juvenile" antics and alleged womanising and now wants to file for divorce to bring their 21-year union to an end.

A source told the Daily Star newspaper: "She is much more than just a wife. She looks after the money and even pays his income tax.

"Over the years they have had their ups and downs and it would be a lie to say that everything is rosy in the garden. Not least is the fact that Francie is fuming because she believes Jeremy is planning another Caribbean trip and is convinced one of his lady friends will be going along.

"She has turned a blind eye over the years, but every so often it all gets too much for her.

"Currently Jeremy is very much in the dog-house and Francie is not happy with him, she is happy doing her own thing at the moment.

"For his part Jeremy is miserable."

Frances is said to be "celebrating" her decision in Spain with friends, but friends of the 54-year-old presenter insist his marriage isn't over.

One pal said: "Yes they have been living apart. But they have been living apart for three years. Nothing has changed. They are not divorcing as far as I know."

If they do divorce, Frances - who has three children with the outspoken TV star - could be entitled to half her husband's £30 million fortune and Clarkson's first wife, Alex Hall, thinks she deserves every penny.

She told the Daily Telegraph newspaper: "She's done her penance. It is her hard work that has made him into the idol he is today.

"Jeremy is the frontman but behind the scenes she was the swan paddling frantically beneath the surface.

Frances has refused to comment on the reports she wants a divorce and asked if she could confirm or deny the story, she simply said: "No."
