The 60-year-old television presenter has admitted he put on two stone after the country went into lockdown in March amid the coronavirus pandemic, because he spent months “just sitting in” and indulging in the copious amounts of wine he had purchased to help him through the tough time.

Jeremy said he ordered “500 cases of rosé” when the country came to a halt, and spent his quarantine period “just sitting in and drinking it”.

The weight gain has unfortunately undone the work the ‘Grand Tour’ presenter put in when he shed two stone in 2019 following a health kick which saw him take up cycling as a form of exercise.

He added: “It’s all back on - and a little bit more.”

England headed into a second national lockdown earlier this month, and Jeremy insisted he would attempt to add “strategy” to his lockdown routine of “massive drinking”, but couldn’t promise to cut down.

Jeremy took up cycling during his “gap year to Indochina”, where he rode 3km every day, and said last year he had shed an impressive amount of weight before filming in Madagascar for the Grand Tour special - ‘The Grand Tour presents: A Massive Hunt’ - which airs in December.

And whilst he hasn’t been able to get out on his bike as much as he would have liked during lockdown, he has been keeping busy on his Cotswolds farm, Diddly Squat, which is set to become the subject of a TV series titled ‘I Bought A Farm’.

Speaking to The Diary column in the Daily Mirror newspaper, he said: “There’s plenty to do on the farm. That’s what’s been keeping me busy over the past 12 months, filming the farm show."
