The 35-year-old footballer has been heavily linked with the Channel 5 show and while he admitted the speculation "may be rumours", the ex-Liverpool winger is keen to take his place in the famous abode.

Speaking on 'Good Morning Britain', he said: "They're just probably rumours, I don't know of yet. They may be rumours. I enjoy television, so if that opportunity does arise it's something I wouldn't shy away from."

The upcoming 'CBB' series' theme will be Eye of the Storm, which will see stars who have been involved in their own "media storms" recruited for the programme.

This fuels further speculation that Jermaine - who previously dated 'Hollyoaks' actress Jennifer Metcalfe - could be joining the show after he has hit the headlines on numerous occasions over the years.

Jermaine was previously arrested for drink-driving on several occasions and was handed a suspended sentence in 2012.

The former England Under-21 star has opened up about his struggles growing up with a drug dealer father.

He said: "Yes, he was [a drug dealer]. He was my idol. I did look up to him. He wasn't your traditional drug dealer, he tried to provide for all of his kids.

"I didn't really go without. When I tried to steal a CD and I got in trouble with the police about it he said, 'Son, if you need anything I'll get it for you and if I can't, I'll steal it for you.'

"That's the kind of guy he was. That's the life we lived. It was very difficult for a black man to get a good job and provide for a family. He was a single parent.

"Where I was brought up it was the normal thing. You just think it's a normal, you don't know any different."

Jermaine played for Non-League outfit Billericay Town last season, and if he signs up for 'CBB' he will follow in the footsteps of Jamie O'Hara, who was a contestant last year and went on to sign for the National League South side a few months later.
