The 'Hold My Hand' hitmaker is said to be among the likes of Ellie Goulding, Tom Odell and Lily Allen as potential candidates to perform on the store's highly-anticipated annual festive campaign.

A source told The Sun newspaper's Bizarre column: "The John Lewis Christmas ad marks the beginning of the festive season for a lot of people and there is a lot of pressure for it to be a success.

“The creative team behind it reckon Jess would be a great choice because she has such a distinctive voice."

However, the 31-year-old singer doesn't know if she's got the job, with bosses yet to make a final decision.

The insider added: “Other artists have also recorded for it and a final decision is expected to be made in the next fortnight.

"Because it is such an important ad, it will all come down to how the song fits with the visuals when everything else is done.”

In previous years, the John Lewis ad has featured the likes of Sir Elton John, Keane and Elbow, while 2019's effort centred around lovable dragon Excitable Edgar, and the song, 'Can't Fight This Feeling', by REO Speedwagon, was re-recorded by Bastille frontman Dan Smith.

Earlier this year, it was claimed Adam&EverywhereDBB -  the company behind the retail giant's traditional seasonal campaign - wanted war veteran Captain Sir Tom Moore for the ad after he raised more than £33 million for the NHS.

An insider said: "Tom's fundraising touched the nation and going forward he will remain a figurehead of what was good during the pandemic.

"For many Tom became totally unifying and those working on the campaign for John Lewis' next advert want to join in that celebration.

"The coming together of the nation during this unprecedented crisis is one of the theme's being explored and of course Tom is at the heart of that."
