The 51-year-old actor - who performed 'Release Me' by Engelbert Humperdinck - was unmasked after finding himself in the show's bottom two alongside Dragon, who performed 'All By Myself' by Celine Dion.

The 'Masked Singer' judges - Rita Ora, Mo Gilligan, Davina McCall and Jonathan Ross - ultimately opted to send him home, with the actor confessing to feeling slightly relieved about their decision.

John -who fooled the judges and the TV audience with a fake Australian accent - also admitted to feeling uncomfortable in his on-screen outfit.

Speaking after his elimination, John explained: "I have to say as a northerner who doesn't feel the cold it's not been the greatest - I will admit there is a sense of relief here."

The judging panel were visibly shocked when John removed his mask, although Jonathan previously suggested that his accent was fake.

And after John's identity was revealed to the judges, the actor - who has starred in 'Cold Feet' and 'The Fast Show' - was asked why he decided to compete on the show.

In response, John simply replied: "Why not?"

John's early exit from the show means there are now seven contestants set to battle it out to claim the 'Masked Singer' crown.

Next week, two contestants will be eliminated from the series on the same night.

Comedy star Alan Carr will also be making a special guest appearance on the panel.
