Though he’s still very much focused on going all the way in this year’s series of Strictly Come Dancing, former Great British Bake Off champion John Whaite has admitted that talks surrounding a future on the West End have taken place.

During an appearance on Channel 4 show Steph's Packed Lunch, John told host Steph McGovern that there are "a few people interested in booking me", adding that "there's murmurings with my agent and it's something I'd love to do.”

Asked if he can sing, he continued: "I can sing... I can hold a tune. I'm not a great singer, I couldn't have a leading role, but I can hold a tune after a few beers!”

John’s journey on Strictly is one that started with him and professional dance partner Johannes Radebe making history, as the first male same-sex duo the competition has ever seen.

"There's lots of pressure" Johannes said, appearing alongside John, "which we've decided to just let go because it's time to really enjoy this process.”

He added: "I think we've broken the stigma, we've gotten over the barriers, now it's time to go for gold, no more holding back.”

This past week on Strictly saw the pair receive some criticism from the judges, but it wasn't something they weren't prepared for, or even not expecting.

"That is my biggest hang-up," said John, "even though I'm a bit of a show off and like to have a laugh with everybody. I still have those demons inside saying 'you're too camp, you're too gay', and that's what comes into my head just before I go on stage, don't be too camp, don't be too gay. We've decided we're just going to be who we are."

John and Johannes are one of the few duos who haven’t yet ended up in the dreaded dance-off, managing to waltz their way through the competition thanks to the support of the British public each week so far.

As the final few weeks approach however, there’s always the chance for a big surprise. Though they should undoubtedly make the finale, Strictly viewers have shocked us in the past. Let’s hope they can go all the way, and be a part of one of the most thrilling Strictly finals of all time.

Steph's Packed Lunch airs weekdays at 12.30pm on Channel 4 and All 4.
